15 year old energetic and lively Yulia with the wonderful still 16 year old Lena, got together in 1999 , mixed Russian pop and electro and created t.A.T.u. 2  teenage lovers that are not afraid to show the world what they feel and believe in, soared high in the world of music and blasted through eastern Europe last September with the unforgettable dynamic single "Ya Soshla S Uma" ("All The Things She Said").  The single was about 2 girls experiencing some strange feelings towards each other, and while they wanted to discover it people around them wanted to banish them. And even after then single was named  MTV Russia's Video of the year its still being requested. Their second single "Not Gonna Get Us" ("Nas Ne Dagoniat") is about them still believing in their love and so running away together with the help of a huge fuel tanker rapidly speeding through everyone who thinks they might stop them. Their 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane album that was released in 2001 sold over 1,000,000 copies on Universal Music Russia.

"Our songs are not silly," says Lena. "Tatu is more sincere, more honest about ourselves and others. We don't shape ourselves for the audience. In Russia, life is not polite. If we don't like something, we say we don't like it. If we don't agree, we say '**** you.'"

Yulia's Biography 

Volkova Yulia Olegonvna, was born on the 20th of February, 1985. Yulia was born in Moscow in Russia. She was the only child of her middle class parents. As a 7 year old Yulia attended The Junior High school # 882 in Moscow. An 8 year old Yulia then started attending the Junior Music School in Moscow. While she was in the Junior Music School , Yulia started taking piano courses. After Graduating from Junior High, an 11 year old Yulia attended the Senior High School # 1113 which was also in Moscow. She happend to join a kids band called "Neposedi". Fate has it that Lena was another member of the band. When she was done with Senior High a 15 year old Yulia Attended Moscow State Music School, faculty of vocals which she is still in today. Yulia has had 5 years of tennis training and considers tennis as one of her hobbies. She also liked Figure Skating, and Ball room dances. Yulia brings the spicey flavour to Tatu, she likes to party and hates staying home and reading books. Yulia has also been acting in small films.  

  Lena's Biography 

Katina Elena Sergeevna, was born on the 4th of October, 1984. Like Yulia Lena was born in Moscow, Russia. Lena was the youngest  of three children and has a well-known musician/pop-songwriter for a Father. From the age of 7,  Lena attended Elementary, Junior High and Senior High School #457 in Moscow and graduated at the age of 17. Soon as Lena was 8, fate played game as Lena decided to attend the Junior Music School, and like Yulia start taking piano classes. As she turned 10 she joined a children's band called "Avenue". However fate wasnt gone yet and so she joined another children's band at the age of  13 called "Neposedi", and Yulia was a member, A 17 year old Lena Graduated and started attending Moscow State University, faculty of psychology. Unlike Yulia Lena is more quiet, and shy. Lena hates partying and likes to read books. She likes horse back riding and gymnastics. But they do share some of their hobbies since Lena like Yulia likes Figure Skating, ballroom dances and swimming.
